APPENDIX 2: Links
A very nice post on the topic of running Windows on your Macintosh and this is a very good topic for FileMaker developers. This is an ideal way to support both platforms with your database products!
At first glance, the posting doesn’t look that detailed ... until ... you see all the links in the post itself! Every listed topic has at least a couple links to more information and some of them are links to guides that have dozens of user comments.
Here is da link!

Jonathan Stark: Value Billing for Software Projects

APPENDIX 2: Links
Although I don’t agree with many of the granular points Jon continues to pitch about value billing, it is excellent content to reflect upon. Below is a link to his blog post and it has a link to the FileMakerTalk podcast discussion that received some much attention.
http://jonathanstark.com/blog/2009/11/16/value-billing-for-software-projects/
Personally, I think this may fall into a category of “telling developers what they want to hear”. Namely, “don’t document your hours” is what some developers are hearing but I don’t think that is what Jon is saying. In my opinion, there is no single silver bullet method for all developers and all customers. If something works for you personally and for your customers, embrace it with both hands and do not let go.

Hoping To Release FileMaker Quiz Product This Month
This summer we kicked off “The Summer Of FileMaker Questions” on our FileMaker Explored Blog Network. It actually was more like half a summer (due to a late start) but we still ended up publishing over 250 FileMaker quiz questions. That isn’t a bad start we have much more to offer. Our library includes roughly 2,500 questions, consisting largely of content from our blogs and online crossword puzzles. We have a rough outline of a FileMaker based quiz shell and we hope to be releasing it by the end of September 2009. The working title is InBizness Quiz - FileMaker Edition. We were very careful to call this a quiz product and not a testing platform. This is because we wanted to be part of a learning process and not a hard core confirmation of knowledge. InBizness Quiz is a learning tool and this product is focused upon mastering the wide and deep areas of FileMaker design.
Our questions are normally multiple choice and we don’t get hung up on pass / fail measurements. Sure, you get a final score after each test and you can use this as motivation to take quizzes often to beat a previous score. We do share with you what questions were missed, what the correct answer was and often offer some insight about how the question came about. We imagine this to be an organic product, much like the learning process itself. We will not only be adding new question content on a regular basis but we will be adding new features to the quiz itself over time.
At least initially, this product will be produced, delivered and operate entirely within FileMaker Pro. We have plans to roll out a web based and a mobile version of this product, largely by partnering with other FileMaker developers with experience in these areas.
We plan on offering a very limited 30 complimentary version that allows someone to take a 10 question quiz each day. Each complimentary membership will last for 30 days, more than enough time to test drive the product.
We will also offer a basic subscription which will run just $7.50 per month, about the price of one meal in a fast food restaurant. This basic subscription will allow you to take a pair of 25 question quizzes a day. The user can take a random question quiz or one targeted in a particular area such as relationships, scripting, calculations and others. Subscriptions are on an automatic renewal basis and can be canceled at any time.
If you have any questions or comments, we would love to hear from you at info@dwaynewright.com.

Check Out Terry White Blog Post On Free Fax Services

Chapter 11: Running The Business
I’ve been a big fan of Terry White’s Tech Blog (and his iPhone book) for quite some time now. Today he had a posting about using free fax services. Most FileMaker developers I know have a similar situation that he outlines in the blog post. The random occasional need to send or receive a fax with a customer or associate. He listed eFax for receiving faxes and faxZERO for sending them. Here is a link to the full post ...
